2013-14 SCHOLARSHIP GUIDELINES
Download the College Scholarship Application and mail it along with your portrait before December 31, 2012.
Applications will be accepted from all students, with special emphasis on those entering at the freshman level. Applications for 2013 must be submitted (emailed, faxed or postmarked) by December 31, 2012. Fall 2012 semester transcripts must be received by January 31, 2013.
Applicants age 17 and over may apply for the SLA Scholarship, but must be 18 and a member in good standing of the Showmen’s League to receive the scholarship. Scholarship applicants may submit a Membership application along with the Dues and Initiation fee (total $50.00) simultaneously, or when they turn 18. Either way to receive the scholarship you must be 18 and a member.
Each Applicant must be sponsored by a Showmen’s League of America (Chicago) member in good standing.
Scholarship applicants (whether new or renewal) must have a minimum 2.5 grade point average or equivalent. New Applicants may attach an official high school transcript to their application. Renewal Applicants must arrange for an official transcript to be sent directly from the college or university to The Showmen’s League office for every renewal application. No other documentation or transcript will be accepted for renewals.
The Showmen’s League of America offers a minimum of two scholarships per year. Scholarships are not automatically renewed. All scholarships must be renewed by the applicant each year. Renewal guidelines may be sent to you or you may request them. Note the deadlines and requirements of those guidelines.
The scholarship offered by The Showmen’s League of America is paid directly to the college or university, not to the student. The scholarship may be used for the tuition, books, supplies and/or lab fees of the student and may be distributed to the student in accordance with each school’s policy. In the event that any of these funds are unused and there is a refund due, the refund is due back to The Showmen’s League of America.
The scholarships are based on superior academic skills with consideration given to test scores, scholastic performance and high school recommendations. Student’s extracurricular activities and involvement in the industry will also be considered. The scholarships are awarded on the basis of the student’s own merit, academic accomplishments, character and commitment. Financial need and family situations are not factors in these awards.
An applicant MUST comply with the requirements and guidelines of the Showmen's League of America's scholarship program and committees. The decisions of the Committee and the League are final.
The Showmen’s League Scholarship Committee will review all applications and will award the scholarships. The Committee may interview applicants and recipients at the committee’s discretion.
